the movement of larynx in human was during infant was not due to evolution, but it was created by our god,He... god was best to us, not due to natural selection but as god want to show us that human was the best creation of Him compare to other animal, if it was an evolution process why other animal not evolved since this characteristic has lot of benefits, are other animal do not want to have same benefits to survive like us, human? I just wonder....

Steven Y. Park. M.D.

Laryngeal descent also predisposes al humans to breathing problems at night, since the tongue can fall back more so in supine sleep and especially in deep sleep, when the muscles relax more. This is why so many human have obstructive sleep apnea.

BLOGGER: Thanks for that interesting contribution.

Your paper is very helpful to clear some dobts rearding laryngeal descent in man.Olfactory and visual sense organs- parts of fore brain shift below the skull base. The role vomer (parasphenoid)as vertical part of nasal septum and formation of hard palate horizantally to meet the septum have also an indirect role in the shieft of larynx down in neck .Welcker's angle(sphenoclival)becomes less due tom biped posture. The length of arytenoids lessens with the evolution of inferior vocal fold in monkeys at a later stage with development of mandible with the development of speech and language processing areas of brain (neocortex)only in man
It would be interesting to me to understand your views about the sequence in descent of larynx and its innervation from centers of cranial nerves-glasopharyngeal and vagus nerves in the medulla of brain in man. Dr.Apte
